EBS Leadership Elections 2015-16

EBS Leadership Elections 2015-16

President

ErnestoM

Becoming the Vice-President of Education of Early Birds straight after joining the club was a challenging and very demanding experience, but one that I have enjoyed thoroughly and that has developed me immensely. Being part of the Leadership Team has been incredibly rewarding and now I want to go a step further on my contribution to the club by putting myself forward as President of Early Bird Speakers.

As a qualified business coach, experienced management consultant and entrepreneur, I am very passionate about bringing people together and leading teams in their path to excellence. That is what I’ve done in demanding corporate environments and my own businesses, and that is exactly what I want to do now for Early Birds: To guide the Leadership Team into excellence, inspire all our members to become even better speakers, and to take Early Birds to new heights of excellence. I will do this by working on three fronts:
MORE Education, MORE Innovation and MORE Engagement

Ernesto’s Full Manifesto

PatrickB

Patrick is a mystery, even to himself. He has been coming to EBS since September 10 and joined in January 11, somehow giving up his resistance to be part of a club. Any club. Probably stemming from the trauma of being discharged from the French army as a lunatic. Despite all his shortcomings, he has been brilliant as a ballot counter, and not so bad as a time keeper, linguist, taostmaster, evaluator, VP mentoring. A bit sloppy as a time keeper though. Never mind, he has given a lot to this club. It is time to get a payback. His mum would vote for him. You can too.

VP Education

MindyJ

This year has been a series of “firsts” for me at EBS:

  • I organised and chaired a contest (table topics). As contest organiser I discovered that putting our meetings together involves organisation skills, people skills and negotiation skills – not to mention stress management skills. However, organising a successful contest for our club was one of the most rewarding things I have done at EBS.
  • I competed in the evaluation contest and made it to the semi-final! There’s no way I could have done this without your support. EBS is special because we always encourage each other to flourish.
  • I joined the Leadership Team, as secretary, and discovered it’s a real honour to work with other EBS members for the benefit of our club.
  • So please vote for me because:

  • I am one of those people who loves a “To Do” list and loves liaising with people – essential VPE skills!
  • As VPE I would take an active interest in all of you and your educational journey. I would like to ensure that you all have an equal opportunity to give speeches and to try the various meeting roles – to encourage you on your CL journey, as well as your CC.
  • I’m really proud to be a member of this club and have benefited enormously from your support. Now it’s my turn!

    VP Membership

    AnthonyO

Since September 2014, I have been regularly attending Early Birds Speaker meetings. I feel privileged that I have given the opportunity to become a full member, early this year.

I have thoroughly enjoyed our meetings and what particular impresses me is the support offered by the Leadership Team.

I would now like to take on the opportunity of joining the committee and standing for the roles of either vice president for treasurer or membership.

I believe through my working experience which I have gained in finance, will provide me with the necessary skills to become a good Vice President for either role.

    I possess good numerical skills.
I have very good organisational skills and I pride myself on my attention to detail.
I enjoyed taking on the responsibility for new projects.
I am looking to keep on developing within Early Birds and wish to take on more responsibility for the Group
I believe these leadership roles, will offer me this opportunity.

If selected, I believe my working skills and experience will become a major asset for the Group.

I want to give something back to the group through taking on more responsibility on how the group is run.

I am keen on developing within the group and I believe these roles will give me this opportunity to do this.

I want to help the club grow by supporting others and I believe if I’m successful I will help us achieve this

Whilst only being a member of Early Birds for just over a year, I have come to learn how valuable such an organisation is. It has helped me advance and better myself in various facets of my life, and so, I want to give something back to the club.

As VP Membership I want to ensure the introduction of new members and Aspiring Members who are, in essence, the future of the club. I want to be alongside the person on Sign In to personally welcome newcomers to the club. After all, I would have been their first point of contact if they had found the club via the internet, which is very often the case.

I also want to ensure that any and all members remain ‘active’ and would encourage attendance from all.

    VP Public Relations

    BiancaT

As most of you are aware I have been doing a lot of the PR for Early Bird Speakers during the last year alongside Co-PR Ian Hawkins. I believe it would be true to say that I have taken Early Bird Speakers to new heights not achieved previously with my weekly Member interviews, uploading of meeting photographs and with blogs managed by Ian. I have also brought in a whole new tranche of guests from the Meet Up groups I attend.

I love this club so much and am all fired up to take the PR to another level by not only bringing some new innovative ideas to the PR but also reaching further out side the club to elevate our image with prospective guests and other TM clubs in the Division.

I will take PR to the stratospheric levels that will match the excellence of our club and its Members!

Vote for me, PR Queen of Early Bird Speakers!

    VP Mentoring

    AlC

Let’s shake these shoes up people! Mentoring is great for the mentee – but also fantastic for the mentor. However, how to get the most out of both roles can sometimes be a struggle, which is why I want to improve the situation at EBS.

I want to experiment with other approaches, including trying out the following:

  • Speakers selecting a mentor at the same time as choosing a speech
  • Have mentors be the speech evaluators
  • Have speeches co-written, so that the mentor has real input to the speech, and is also recognised as such on the agenda.
  • Encourage mentoring for speech projects outside the club, such as TV, radio, podcasting.
  • Encourage members to seek both mentors and mentees in the real world for non speech projects.
  • Create an online resource on the EBS website with advice on mentoring.
  • No one wants to impose themselves on others by offering to be a mentor, but when you identify someone in the club (or outside it) who you think could benefit from your help, it would be satisfying to know the best way to offer this – and to practice offering, and to practice, and to practice.

No one wants to impose themselves on a mentor, but the best mentors are able to bring the best out of us. As VP Mentoring, I will work on making us all better at asking for and giving the help that will raise us all up.

In a nutshell, I will make mentoring at EBS both a greater pleasure and a skill that can be honed!

    HarounEH

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

You’ll probably heard this quote before and it’s one of those truisms that never loses value.

As VP Mentoring, it would be my responsibility to make sure everyone can fish for themselves, either by helping them personally, or putting them in touch with someone that can.

It’s my view that everyone needs at least one good mentor to provide fresh perspective, support when in doubt and the vision to spur them on to great things.

At the end of the day, if you’re ambitious and willing, your biggest obstacle to achieving your goals is you.

Having a mentor is a great way of recognising that…and gives you the foresight to do something about it.

Vote Haroun, and I’ll guide you down the right path!

    MagdaD

I have joined the Club just last week after 6 meaningful months of my passionate attendance. When I was asked if I would like to take the plunge and run for a role on the leadership team I replied: ‘I would love to apply for a leadership role and have a chance to join the team who cares about the future of the club. I do. There’s lots for me to learn because at first I seek to understand.’

The best mentors are those who are the best students. I am a lifelong learner.

To help you to achieve your goals and progress in public speaking, gain confidence, develop your interpersonal skills and raise your self-awareness I use my natural coaching style. Because you have all the resources to achieve these and more.

In this role I will build upon my background and experience within professional coaching and my passion for your development. I will collaborate with the Team to ensure that you have the best support we can provide you in our Club with.

I care about the future of the EBS. Because each and every of you is the future.

    VP Events

    DavidW

Many of us have schedules meaning we aren’t able to attend the breakfasts and miss out on getting to know one another in a relaxed social setting. David wants to change this and is running for VP-Events after serving the club as VP-Membership during 2014/15 where he cites growing the waiting list to a whopping 20 as his main achievement.

“We are a diverse club and I believe this provides a chance to put together a social programme that is equally varied and inclusive, and is more than the occasional get together at the pub” says David, “I want to look for ways to get to know each other, making the most of the plethora of opportunities in this great city”.

“I like the idea of having unusual events and great things happen when we Early Birds network, brilliant friendships and business relationships are formed, it’s fantastic” as he looks over a sketch-pad full of suggestions that include a range of unfamiliar settings both in and out of London. “We create magic every Thursday morning and I think our club deserves an events programme to match the range of ages, interests, backgrounds and budgets that exist within the club” he adds

As a freelance project manager, David makes a living from making things happen and he wants to use these skills for the benefit of Early Birds. A vote for him will make sure we have a social calendar as full and interesting as every one of our meetings.

I love bringing people together. I’ve organised many a party, shindig and hoedown! Over the last 3 years I have also successfully organised many professional events. I want to bring my knowledge and experience to the role of VP Events and help make Earlybird Speakers a more fun, vibrant and connected club!

  • Adventure – a wide mix of events so everyone has something to enjoy throughout the year and no one is left out. Everything from after-work drinks to an annual summer picnic and sports day. One event I would love to create is a walking tour of London led by some of our Toastmasters – we could use our skills and have some fun.
  • Regular events – As VP Events, my goal is to introduce regular monthly events so we have more opportunities to socialise and get to know each other. There are some members that cannot join for breakfast and I believe this will make a huge difference and keep us connected. We will also have public speaking events and workshops to ensure we remain one of the best clubs.
  • Community – I want to foster a sense of teamwork. Members can suggest ideas for events and we will create teams to turn these into reality. At Earlybird Speakers, our members have so many fantastic ideas and talents and I want to make the most of this.
  • .

I would really love to make a difference to this club. Vote for Sabrina Rahman as VP Events!

    VanessaH

By profession I am and executive assistant so I am very used to the responsibilities the secretary must take up. I’ve lots of practice taking clear concise minutes – in my current job I type them real time then share and have them agreed straight away at the end of the meeting. Likewise with the actions. I’m good at remembering names and updating accurate contact records. I am a leader in administration and would like to provide my skill for early birds speakers and toastmasters.

    Sergeant at Arms

    AndreasA

As a new addition to the club, I’d like to take this chance to get up half an hour before everyone else and contribute with my expert knowledge in all things technical/TCL.

EBS has already been and will continue to be important for my future development, and so I would like to become an integral part in making the meetings run smoothly.

I like to see myself as someone to trust with responsibility which is what is needed for this role. I will be there, get the job done and always aim for a seamless experience.

Busy now with setting up a rare coin company and online marketplace for the coin collecting community, my background in the 7 years prior to this lies within gaming, strategy and risk management as a professional poker player.

Basically I’m All-in for this role!

    Technology Officer

    MiguelR

My background is in technology and currently I work for a technology provider as a Mobile Practice Lead. I am involved in developing mobile solutions for both Voice of the Customer (VoC) and Market Research industries.

In the past, I have been involved with non for profit organizations. For example, I was in the management team for a Spanish swimming team called Halegatos for five years.  I had various roles in the team and I was also in charge of the website. My aim was to use technology to promote the club and also to show the good atmosphere of the club.  Here are two videos that I created to illustrate what I mean.

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy15sJ2huuE
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqH-8hJ61fI

In this role as technology officer, I will strive to make improvements to the website. For example, I believe in automating the process of capturing feedback from Earlybirds members and visitors.  A simple automated survey after each meeting can help to capture new ideas and to identify actions that need to be taken to improve any existing processes. I am also a great believer of keeping processes simple and without major changes (since they are working very well). I believe that the website is very fresh and modern and in particular, I love the whole concept of Early Birds TV.
