The EBS 60 Second Interview – Reece Howe
Reece is a London-based entrepreneur. His latest venture uses psychology to make you buy more stuff online. He is a big reader and most of his speeches are about books he’s read or thoughts developed from them. His pet hate is writing short paragraphs about himself.
What brought you to EBS?
When I was starting my first business I read about Toastmasters in a book about sales. I looked it up and the first club I found was EBS. I came once and I was hooked!
Was it everything you expected?
It’s more than I expected – EBS is an amazing club and there are so many benefits of being a toastmaster – communication, confidence, leadership, improv speaking, creativity, giving ideas structure, meeting interesting people…
How long have you been a Member?
In total for about 2 years, but spread across 5 years.
Did you have any expectations before you came?
I expected it would be scary to do, but it was a challenge I was looking for. I was not disappointed! I can’t remember many things as exhausting as my icebreaker speech. I thought I was going to fall over at the end.
Were your expectations fulfilled?
Well, I’m still here!
What surprised you most about EBS?
How bloody long the waiting list was.
What is special about EBS?
I love the mixture of old hands and newbies. It’s great to be able to see the regulars and meet new people as they join. And it’s amazing to see the progress people make over time. In some cases the transformation is hard to believe!
What do you like best about coming to our Club?
The people and the venue. The people are so friendly and Freemasons’ Hall is an amazing building and a great venue for speaking.
What do your friends and family say about you since you joined?
That I’m taller, better looking and more successful.
How has becoming a member of EBS affected you/ your life?
Everything is better now.
What was your biggest fear before you came?
Is that still your biggest fear?
Is there anything else you would rather be doing on a Thursday morning?
Yes but my girlfriend comes to Early Birds too.
